Truth and Reconciliation

Work to implement the calls to action in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report:

In November 2016, a Government legal brief insinuated that the Sipekne’katik band was a ‘conquered’ people. As Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Leader of the Government, Stephen McNeil’s responsibility was to ensure that no such position was ever presented on behalf of the province before the courts.

Nova Scotia needs to recognize and take action on the recommendations and calls to action in the TRC report.

• Work nation-to-nation to fulfill the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action across the province, including (but not limited to) increasing Indigenous representation in the health care field, providing cultural education for all, and working towards a provincial adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
• Continue to build relationships with Indigenous communities in Mi’kma’ki.
