Tariff hotline, survey only first step to include Nova Scotians in tariff response: Chender

HALIFAX – The following is a statement from NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender:

“We’re glad that the Premier has heard our call to ensure Nova Scotians and local businesses are included in the conversation around our response to Trump’s tariff threat.
Although the tariffs have been paused for now, we must take this opportunity to work together and ensure we have a plan to respond and build a stronger economy for Nova Scotians.
We welcome the tariff response survey and hotline that gives people an opportunity to engage in this conversation. Now, we need to create a task force that brings together labour, industry, Indigenous representatives, and political and community leaders, similar to what provinces like Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba, and B.C. have done.
Nova Scotians haven’t seen Tim Houston for the last two weeks and they’re wondering what comes next. With 29,000 jobs directly connected to exports to the U.S., we must act now and meet this moment together.”
