Statment: NDP Leader Gary Burrill on Nursing Home bedsores report

SYDNEY – NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement in response to today’s report on bedsores in Nova Scotia’s long-term care facilities:

“The news that over 150 people in Nova Scotia’s nursing homes have stage three and four bedsores is further evidence of the deteriorating conditions caused by the Liberals' cuts to nursing home funding.

Like so much else the McNeil government is only moved to action when presented with a full-blown emergency. The people of Nova Scotia deserve a government that invests in the services we need.

The NDP supports the Nurses Union’s proposal to ensure there is an increased level of licensed staff at these facilities to care for residents.”

The NDP Caucus is in Sydney this week for a caucus retreat. While in Cape Breton Burrill will be meeting with local seniors advocates.
