Statement by Tammy Martin on loss of 21 physicians in Cape Breton

NEW WATERFORD- Tammy Martin, MLA for Cape Breton Centre and NDP Health and Wellness spokesperson made the following statement:

“The Liberals’ move to centralize health care decision making in Halifax is having disastrous results in Cape Breton.

Losing 10 per cent of physicians in Cape Breton should be recognized for what it is -- a major crisis. While the province-wide wait list for a family doctor declined for the first time this month, the situation in Cape Breton just keeps getting worse.

We have fewer and fewer doctors and the Liberals’ response is to close two of our hospitals. Cape Bretoners deserve health care when and where we need it.”
