Statement by Tammy Martin on Bill 148

Attack on workers has been unfair, demoralizing

HALIFAX – NDP Labour spokesperson Tammy Martin made the following statement on the government’s decision to send all of Bill 148 to the courts of review:

“I’m pleased the Liberals have decided to send all of Bill 148 to the courts for review.

The Liberals’ attacks on front-line workers who provide health care, education and social services to people in our province have been unfair and demoralizing. This legislation disproportionally affects women, who make up 64 per cent of public sector workers, including 81 per cent of health workers.

The NDP Caucus has introduced legislation to restore free and fair collective bargaining in Nova Scotia by repealing Bill 148.”
