NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement on the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion:

“Today marks a significant anniversary for Halifax. One hundred years ago, the Halifax Explosion occurred, killing 2000 people and injuring thousands more.

The response to the disaster was swift and communities rallied together to set up temporary hospitals and to rebuild the devastated parts of the city.

In a time of crisis, people throughout Nova Scotia, across Canada, and beyond came to our aid. It is the legacy of that response that we should remember today. When people need help we will be there to give it, to support those in need, and help build a better, stronger community together."
