Statement by NDP Justice Spokesperson on the Cannabis Control Act

HALIFAX – NDP Justice spokesperson Claudia Chender made the following statement in response to the government’s cannabis control act:

“While today’s legislation finally lays out important elements of the legalization of cannabis, including rules around driving, we continue to have questions about this implementation.

We need to see plans for a public education program on the effects of cannabis use. And we are concerned that the government has not released any costs associated with cannabis legalization. As well, the government should be looking at economic development opportunities for local cannabis production ahead of this summer’s roll-out."
