Statement: McNeil Liberals must update Mental Health Strategy

Halifax– NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement to mark World Suicide Prevention Day:

“Mental health care, like all health care in our province, is in crisis. Wait times are too long, those who need care are not always sure where to find it and the public system is bursting at the seams.

As we mark World Suicide Prevention Day today, the McNeil Liberals must go back to the Mental Health Strategy and update the goals and plans spelled out in that document.

Hundreds of hours of expert work were put into the original strategy and the Liberals have let it gather dust on the shelf. The people of Nova Scotia deserve better.”
