Statement by Claudia Chender on federal funding for child care

HALIFAX– NDP Spokesperson for Education and Early Childhood Development, Claudia Chender, made the following statement on today’s child care funding announcement:

“While it’s encouraging to see 3.5 million dollars set aside for funding to create inclusive environments, today’s announcement still leaves major gaps in our child care system in Nova Scotia.

I’m disappointed to see the continuation of a patchwork system of grants and subsides when what our families need is a stable, affordable system that supports children, parents, and early childhood educators.

The government should be building a system that provides universal access to child care for the families of Nova Scotia."
