Rod Wilson nominated as NSNDP candidate for Halifax Armdale
HALIFAX – Dr. Rod Wilson will be the Nova Scotia New Democrat candidate for Halifax Armdale in the next provincial election. Wilson is a family physician, health care advocate and community volunteer. He has worked as a nurse, physician, and health care executive in Halifax, across Nova Scotia, and various parts of northern Canada.
“There is no greater challenge in our province than the current crisis in health care. Patients have faced growing barriers to care over the last eight years under both the Liberal and Conservative governments. Front line health care professionals have often been excluded from system decision-making, this needs to change,” said Wilson. “I’ve worked my whole life advocating for and creating health care improvements. Now is the time to continue that work as the NDP MLA for Halifax Armdale. I am inspired by the authentic leadership of Claudia Chender, and excited to be part of her team and have a real impact”
Wilson helped establish the Pride Health program at the Nova Scotia Health Authority, was Executive Director at the North End Community Health Centre and held leadership roles with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS, Doctors NS and the NS Department of Health and Wellness. He is a dedicated volunteer, working with organizations province-wide, including the NS AIDS Commission, Mental Health Foundation NS, CMHA NS, Adsum Women and Children, Shelter Nova Scotia and Hospice Halifax. Dr. Wilson previously ran under the Liberal banner in 2016 in the Halifax Needham byelection.
“We are building something special and are excited about the enthusiasm we’re feeling from Nova Scotians. Dr. Wilson has been doing the hard work of building a better province for everyone for decades and will make a fantastic MLA for Halifax Armdale,” said NSNDP leader Claudia Chender. “Rod is a committed and dedicated physician who will bring his decades of health care knowledge and advocacy to the legislature.”
Nova Scotia New Democrats are committed to fighting for what matters most to Nova Scotians, improving health care, making housing affordable, and addressing the skyrocketing cost of living increases. The Nova Scotia NDP has nominated 13 candidates so far this summer. Additional nominations will be coming over the next weeks and months.
