Paid sick leave must be available beyond COVID pandemic

HALIFAX -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement in response to the federal investment to provide 10 paid sick days to workers during COVID-19:

“The federal investment in paid sick days is an important step forward. For those who typically can’t afford to miss a shift, this is a real gain. We applaud Jagmeet Singh’s leadership in making this happen.

Right now this is a federal program limited to those affected by COVID-19, but we know that all workers deserve access to paid sick leave. That’s why our NDP caucus tabled legislation last year that would provide paid leave to all workers in Nova Scotia through the Labour Standards Code. We will continue to push for this to protect the health of all workers and our communities.”
