Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender announces NSNDP Shadow Cabinet
HALIFAX – Today, Claudia Chender, Leader of Nova Scotia’s New Democrats and the Official Opposition, announced her Shadow Cabinet.
“As the Official Opposition, we are getting to work for the people of Nova Scotia, suggesting solutions and holding the Houston government accountable for their lack of action to meaningfully address the health-care crisis, housing, and affordability. Life for Nova Scotians has gotten worse under Tim Houston, and we need a strong Opposition to push for better,” said Chender. “Together, New Democrats will continue to fight for a better Nova Scotia – one where everyone can build a life, create a better future, and thrive.”
Chender will continue to serve as critic for the Premier’s Office and Executive Council, Intergovernmental Relations, Trade, and L’Nu Affairs.
Lisa Lachance, re-elected MLA for Halifax Citadel-Sable Island, will return as critic for Finance, Environment, Mental Health and Addictions, 2SLGBTQIA+ Affairs, and Acadian Affairs, and take on the role of critic for Natural Resources. Lachance will also serve as House Leader.
Susan Leblanc, re-elected MLA for Dartmouth North, will return as critic for Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. She will add Service Nova Scotia, Status of Women and Energy to her portfolio. Leblanc will also serve as Caucus Chair and Public Accounts Committee Chair.
Suzy Hansen, re-elected MLA for Halifax Needham, will remain a strong voice as critic for Housing, African Nova Scotian Affairs, the Office of Equity and Anti-Racism, and the Human Rights Commission. She will also be critic for Communications Nova Scotia and serve as the Caucus Whip.
Kendra Coombes, re-elected MLA for Cape Breton Centre-Whitney Pier, will return as critic for Municipal Affairs and Public Works, and will serve as critic for the Office of Service Efficiency and Military Relations. She will also continue in her role as Deputy House Leader.
Krista Gallagher, newly elected MLA for Halifax Chebucto, will be critic for Economic Development, Agriculture, Gaelic Affairs, and Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Lina Hamid, newly elected MLA for Fairview-Clayton Park, will be critic for Justice, Community Services, the Office of Cybersecurity and Digital Solutions, and Youth.
Dr. Rod Wilson, newly elected MLA for Halifax Armdale, will be critic for Health and Wellness, Emergency Management, and Seniors and Long-Term Care.
Paul Wozney, newly elected MLA for Sackville-Cobequid, will be critic for Labour, Skills and Immigration, Education, Advanced Education, and the Public Service Commission.
