NSNDP recognizes Transgender Day of Remembrance, commits to supporting trans health care
HALIFAX – NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement on Transgender Day of Remembrance:
“Today, we pause to remember the 2SLGBTQIA+ people whose lives were tragically cut short by violence, discrimination, and hate. New Democrats stand in solidarity with the transgender community, and we acknowledge their resilience and strength in the face of their ongoing fight for equality.
Transgender Day of Remembrance is a reminder that while we have made important strides toward equality, there is still much work to be done. The NSNDP is committed to ensuring the 2SLGBTQIA+ community can access the gender-affirming health care they need, creating a Minister of 2SLGBTQIA+ Affairs, and fully funding the 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan to fight stigma and discrimination, particularly for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
On this day, let us commit to a future where transgender individuals are celebrated for who they are, where their voices are heard, and where their contributions to our society are recognized. Today, we mourn those we have lost, but we also renew our pledge to create a world where everyone is treated with respect and dignity.”
