Statement on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

March 21, 2017

The NDP Caucus made the following statement for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination:

Today, we stand with community groups across Nova Scotia that are fighting racism and promoting equality and justice every day. We know that racial discrimination affects the province’s Indigenous, African Nova Scotian and newcomer communities, and that its impacts are felt in all aspects of life—the justice system, education, health care, jobs, and much more.

We need policies that address the root causes of racial injustice, and dialogue to promote better understanding of the lived realities of racialized people. The NDP is committed to being an ally in the struggle to end racism in our schools, workplaces, institutions and communities. We celebrate the diversity of Nova Scotians, and will work to create a province that honours culture while actively addressing social and economic injustice.
