Statement on International Women’s Day

March 8, 2017

HALIFAX – NDP Status of Women Critic Lenore Zann gave the following statement for International Women’s Day:

Today, in Nova Scotia, being a woman is a struggle. It is a struggle to make ends meet, navigate through systems that discriminate and oppress, and defend our right to safety and respect.

We know that violence against women happens every day, across our province, enabled by a culture of victim-blaming. We know that the supports available to victims and survivors, as well as important prevention work, are inadequately funded. This all has to change.

The NDP is committed to supporting women, not just in our words, but in our work to change public policy. We can be a province that takes the issue of gender-based violence seriously, provides quality affordable childcare, and invests in women’s incomes and education.

Thank you to all the individuals and organizations who are working every day to address gender inequality and create a better world for women, trans people and girls. We stand with you.
