Statement from Gary Burrill on An Act Respecting a Teachers’ Professional Agreement and Classroom Improvements

February 14, 2017

For immediate release.

HALIFAX – NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement about the release of the An Act Respecting a Teachers’ Professional Agreement and Classroom Improvements:

“Karen Casey’s explanation of the Liberal government’s decision to force a contract on teachers shows just how far into the world of alternative facts this government has gone. A more accurate title of this Act would be the Slap in the Face Act. It is a slap in the face to students and parents who recognize our classrooms are in crisis. It is a slap in the face to the teachers who have been crying out for help for the last 15 months and now are having a contract rammed down their throats by the McNeil Liberals.

Improving classroom conditions requires a government committed to finding a way to make significant investments in our children’s future. It’s something the NDP knows we can do and Stephen McNeil has shown he can’t.”
