NDP asking for just resolution to deportation order for woman in Dartmouth General

September 29, 2016

For immediate release.

HALIFAX – NDP Justice Critic Marian Mancini and NDP Immigration Critic Lenore Zann wrote to Ministers Diana Whalen and Lena Diab yesterday looking for information about what the government is doing to find a just resolution in the case of Fliss Cramman. Ms. Cramman is under a deportation order, while currently recovering from surgery at Dartmouth General.

“Ms. Cramman is recovering from multiple surgeries and her health must be a priority. We want to ensure that no actions are taken that could compromise her recovery,” said NDP Justice Critic Marian Mancini. “In particular, the reports that Ms. Cramman is being physically restrained to her hospital bed without any evidence that she is a flight risk require an explanation from the Justice Minister.”

According to media reports, Ms. Cramman came to Canada from the UK at the age of eight and was removed from her family at the age of 11 due to sexual abuse in the home. She remained in government care until she was 18. No one completed the citizenship process for Ms. Cramman while she was a minor.

“The circumstances suggest Ms. Cramman was failed by the child protection system,” said NDP Critic for Immigration Lenore Zann. “We deserve to know what the government is doing to ensure that this issue is resolved.”
