New NDP House Leader Named

Halifax -- Today, NDP Leader Gary Burrill announced that Dartmouth South MLA Claudia Chender will be the new House Leader for the NDP Caucus. Chender, who was Deputy House Leader, takes over from retired MLA Dave Wilson.

Chender is currently the only woman House Leader in the legislature and is the first woman to be House Leader of any party in at least the last 20 years.

“The NDP has a proud record of strong women as leaders in the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly, starting with Alexa McDonough as the first woman to lead a major party in Canada. Claudia Chender will continue that important work as our House Leader,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill.

Cape Breton Centre MLA Tammy Martin, and Dartmouth North MLA Susan Leblanc will be the NDP members of the new Health Committee.
