New Democrats focused on potential tariffs, housing, and health care in spring sitting

HALIFAX – With the Nova Scotia Legislature set to reconvene this week, New Democrats are focused on homes people can afford, reliable health care, and support for Nova Scotians in the face of the Trump tariff threat.

“With increased unbudgeted spending, decreased accountability, and serious economic threats on the horizon, the choices we make now will shape the future of Nova Scotia,” said NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender. “We need a government that is proactive, not reactive. Let’s focus on bolstering our local economies, protecting workers and diversifying the industries that sustain our communities.”

New Democrats are prepared to work with all parties to address ongoing economic concerns, especially the threat of the Trump tariffs on Nova Scotia’s economy.

With a budget expected this session, the NSNDP will push for concrete investments in building a sustainable economy, tackling the housing and affordability crisis, improving health care and addressing the gender-based violence epidemic.

“New Democrats are ready to put in the work this session to create sustainable growth and ensure we are well-prepared for what comes next,” said Chender. “We will introduce smart, sensible legislation that will make life better for Nova Scotians – because this province should work for everyone, no matter what happens next month.”

Chender, who is the first woman elected to lead Nova Scotia’s Official Opposition, will take her seat in the Legislature along with the rest of the new NSNDP caucus on February 14.
