NDP ready to take on housing, and health care as official opposition
HALIFAX – On Wednesday, Nova Scotia New Democrat leader Claudia Chender laid out her commitment to fight for what matters most to Nova Scotians following Tuesday’s vote.
“We ran a campaign focused on you and with the team of MLAs elected yesterday we'll get to work, starting today,” said Chender. “People across this province voted for protection for renters, primary health care for all Nova Scotians, and solutions that make life more affordable every day. The issues facing Nova Scotians don’t disappear with the end of an election campaign and our work to address them is just getting started.”
Chender and the NDP elected all five incumbent MLAs and four new members of the New Democrat caucus on Tuesday.
“Our campaign was one of positivity and possibility. Our caucus will be there to work towards better, to fight for all Nova Scotians, and to hold Tim Houston to account,” said Chender. “After three years we know what we’re getting from the Houston Conservatives. Broken Promises and backroom deals. Tim Houston got away with it when the Liberals were Opposition, but that all ends today. New Democrats will continue the fight for homes that people can actually afford, health care you can rely on, and a government that puts you first.”
