NDP Leader tours Cumberland County, focused on clear-cutting and access to post-secondary edu.

AMHERST – NDP Leader Gary Burrill with be in Cumberland County Monday December 4 to meet with residents and organizations about local issues including clear-cutting in the Wentworth Valley.

“Communities need to have more say in the preservation of their environment,” said Burrill. “Clear-cutting is an issue we’re hearing about in many parts of the province. The Liberal government should be doing more to reduce clear cutting.”

Burrill will also visit the Amherst Learning Centre, part of NSCC Cumberland where he’ll have an opportunity to learn more about access and affordability when it comes to post-secondary education in rural parts of the province.

“This province has the fastest-increasing tuition for post-secondary education. We need to make sure young people want to come here or can stay in Nova Scotia for their education,” said Burrill.

At the end of the day Burrill will attend the Oxford Town Council swearing-in ceremony at Oxford Town Hall.
