NDP to introduce legislation to ban P3 contracts for public infrastructure builds

Bill to prevent government from repeating costly mistake

HALIFAX – NDP Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal spokesperson Susan Leblanc will introduce legislation today that would stop the government from building public infrastructure through P3 contracts.

“P3 deals made under past Liberal governments prove that the model didn’t work for our schools,” said Leblanc. “This legislation would prevent the McNeil government from repeating that costly mistake with our hospitals.”

The Liberals have said a P3 option is possible for the QE-II Health Sciences Centre redevelopment – a project that is estimated to cost the province almost $400 million.

“We know P3s have been bad for Nova Scotia. The Liberals should know better than to continue using P3s for public projects,” said NDP leader Gary Burrill.
