Liberals' Throne Speech fails on solutions to health care crisis

Response from NDP Leader

Halifax -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement in response to today’s Speech from the Throne:

“Under the McNeil Liberals, life is getting harder for people in Nova Scotia. While hundreds of families are stuck waiting with loved ones in a hospital bed when they should be in long-term care, and thousands of nursing home residents worry daily about their quality of care, the McNeil Liberals have nothing more to offer in their Throne Speech than self-satisfied platitudes.

Instead of focussing on congratulating themselves, the McNeil government should be focussing on solutions to our health care crisis. The NDP will be ready to celebrate when people can expect their local emergency room to be open, when families can be confident they will have access to a family doctor, and when people who work full-time are able to afford a roof over their heads and enough food to feed their families.

The Liberals’ Throne Speech does nothing to acknowledge the serious issues so many people in our province face each day, or to provide solutions for families who are finding it more and more difficult to get by.”
