Donation drive launched for residents affected by Primrose and Burle street fires

HALIFAX – Dartmouth North MLA Susan Leblanc has launched a donation and gift card drive to help those affected by apartment fires over the Victoria Day weekend. Fires at 81 Primrose St. and 23 Brule St have affected over 100 residents in Dartmouth North.

“With so many people out of their homes, people have been calling my office and asking how they can help,” said Leblanc. “The residents of these two buildings don’t know when they’ll be able to return to their homes and need help to cover every day costs like food, and clothes, and other necessities.”

Leblanc’s constituency office will be collecting Walmart gift cards and donations to purchase gift cards for affected residents. Leblanc is working with the Farrell Benevolent Society which will distribute the gift cards to those in need.

“The world doesn’t stop because of a fire. People still need to eat and send their kids to school and go to work,” said Angela Rafuse, a resident of 81 Primrose St. “Donations of gift cards or money mean people will be able to get what they need, when they need it, while we figure out what’s next and when we get to go home.”

Anyone interested in making a donation can drop it off at Susan Leblanc's constituency office, 260 Wyse Rd, Suite 102 in Dartmouth or phone 902-463-6670 for more information.
