Alison Aho nominated as NSNDP candidate for Sydney-Membertou

Sydney – Alison Aho will be the Nova Scotia New Democrat candidate for Sydney-Membertou in the next provincial election. Alison is a criminal defence lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid and the President of the Board of Directors of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Cape Breton. She lives in Sydney with her husband.

“I want to be the next MLA for Sydney-Membertou because I’ve seen the gaps being left by government decisions and I want to work to address serious issues like the housing crisis to support people before they fall through the cracks. I'm looking forward to campaigning with Claudia Chender's team. Her genuine optimism about what’s possible is inspiring,” said Aho. "Sydney-Membertou is a unique riding with the distinct community of Membertou First Nation included within its boundaries. I been privileged to have spent quite a bit of time in Membertou and with community members. I believe the rich culture and traditions of Membertou mixed with their unparalleled business and economic growth make this a community deserving of representation that is personally invested in their welfare and interests."

Nova Scotia New Democrats are committed to fighting for what matters most to Nova Scotians, making housing affordable, addressing the skyrocketing cost of living increases, and improving health care.

“We are building a campaign of strong community advocates and are excited about the enthusiasm we’re feeling from Nova Scotians. People know that something better is within reach,” said NSNDP leader Claudia Chender. “We are working hard to be ready to elect more MLAs who are committed to solving the challenges Nova Scotians face like the lack of affordable housing, the skyrocketing cost of groceries and power, and the health care crisis across the province. Alison is a fantastic community advocate and we are excited to have her on our team.”

Nominations are open across the province for Nova Scotia New Democrats. More nominations will be coming over the next weeks and months.
