Statement from Gary Burrill on end of Herald strike

NDP boycott ends

HALIFAX - NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement about the end of the strike at the Chronicle Herald:

"On behalf of the NDP Caucus I congratulate the members of the Halifax Typographical Union on the end of their heroic strike. They stood the gaff and today they have voted to accept a collective agreement. The NDP Caucus has been proud to stand with the HTU throughout this strike by participating in the boycott of the Chronicle Herald. The end of the strike also means the end of our boycott.

This strike likely would have ended much sooner had Stephen McNeil and the Liberals not waited over 18 months to call an industrial inquiry commission into the situation.

Thank you to the journalists, editors and photographers for standing up for workers' rights."
