Statement by Claudia Chender on Bloomfield property

Property should be preserved for public use

HALIFAX – NDP Education and Early Childhood Development spokesperson Claudia Chender made the following statement regarding the Bloomfield property and the upcoming vote at the Halifax Regional Municipality Council:

“The Bloomfield property is an important piece of public land in the heart of Halifax and must be preserved for public purposes. Recently, it has become clear that there is interest from both the Halifax Regional School Board and the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial in using the property for new schools. There are also ongoing conversations about using the land for cultural space, green space and affordable housing. The NDP Caucus believes it is important for the provincial government to make a declaration of interest in the property to help ensure it is preserved for public use.”
