Maureen MacDonald, MLA Halifax Needham was first elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature on March 24, 1998.
She served as Minister of Health and Wellness and Minister of Finance in Nova Scotia’s first NDP government.
Prior to election Maureen was a faculty member at the Dalhousie University School of Social Work where she taught social policy and community development.
In November 2013 Maureen became Acting Leader of the NS New Democratic Party overseeing the process of transitioning to a new leader.
Maureen lives in the historic hydrostone district of North End Halifax and takes pride in being able to say “We make ships and beer.”
