NSNDP Statement on Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan
HALIFAX – The following is a statement from NSNDP Public Works Critic Kendra Coombes:
“Nova Scotians rely on safe, well-maintained roads to get to where they need to go. The Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan is a start, but we need more.
We need a local roads paving plan to ensure that provincial local roads are safe and usable. Many roads across the province are in a state of deep disrepair, especially in rural areas like Cape Breton. Our local Nova Scotia Public Works offices need more resources to support local job growth and ensure roads are in good condition.
Additionally, the Houston government must focus more on rural transportation plans and community transit to ensure our roads serve all road users, including transit users and cyclists.
We need a clear, consistent, thorough plan to keep our province and its people moving in the right direction.”
