Melinda MacKenzie named NSNDP Candidate for Pictou West

Pictou – Nova Scotia New Democrats will gather to launch our Pictou West by-election campaign on Sunday, April 28 in Pictou. Melinda MacKenzie is running for the New Democrats in Pictou West.

“This by-election is a chance for the people of Pictou West to send Tim Houston a message: that immediate action needs to be taken to make life affordable again, and that fixing health care means primary care for residents and timely emergency care when you need it,” said NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender. “Melinda is a dedicated community member and councillor and we’re excited about the experience and energy she will bring to Halifax as the next MLA for Pictou West.”

Born and raised in Pictou, MacKenzie is running to contribute in a new way to the rich tapestry of the communities that make up her home. As a local teacher and town councillor she is committed to bringing Pictou’s concerns to Halifax as the next MLA.

“As your MLA, I’m committed to always listening to your concerns, leveraging local strengths for continued economic and community growth, and ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for all Pictou West residents,” said MacKenzie. “I believe in Claudia Chender and the positivity she brings to her work to make life better for all Nova Scotians.”

New Democrats represented Pictou West most recently from 2003-2013 when Charlie Parker was the MLA. Parker served as Speaker of the House of Assembly and Minister for Natural Resources and Energy.
