Liberals failing to do exit interviews with doctors

McNeil not taking health care crisis in Cape Breton seriously

Sydney, NS – NDP Health Spokesperson Tammy Martin says Stephen McNeil and the Liberals are failing Cape Bretoners and not taking the health care crisis in Cape Breton seriously. Over a year after promising to do exit interviews with doctors in Cape Breton, only three exit interviews have been done, while 25 physicians have left.

“Doctors in Cape Breton are demoralized and sick of a government that won’t listen to their concerns,” said Martin. “It’s no surprise that the Health Authority hasn’t been able to convince doctors that an exit interview won’t be a waste of time.”

Since the election, health care providers have repeatedly raised concerns with the state of the health care system, but there has been no response from the Premier or Minister of Health. The NDP Caucus has been pushing for a major investment in access to primary health care.

“Without serious investment in primary health care, things will keep getting worse for people in Cape Breton,” said Martin. “I’ll continue to hold the government’s feet to the fire until the Liberals commit to providing the health care Cape Bretoners need.”
