Job Opportunity: Provincial Secretary

The Provincial Secretary is the chief administrative officer of the NSNDP. Reporting to the Provincial Executive, the incumbent is responsible for the operation and ongoing development of the Nova Scotia NDP.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning, organizing, and directing all activities related to the operation and financial management of the Nova Scotia NDP in keeping with the decisions of the governing bodies of the Party, the Party’s aims and objectives.
  • Financial management including budget preparation and management and regulatory filings consistent with the requirements of the Elections Act.
  • Liaising between the different levels of the Party and the elected members of the NSNDP Caucus
  • Oversight and active participation in fundraising activities
  • Providing strategic advice to the Party and Caucus in terms of building capacity and knowledge of election campaigns
  • Organizational development of Electoral District Associations including public outreach, membership expansion, issue campaigns
  • Preparations for Annual General Meetings, Conventions, and provincial elections
  • Administration of the day-to-day affairs of Provincial Office and supervision of staff in an organized environment

The successful applicant will possess:

  • A commitment to the policies and goals of the NSNDP
  • Skill and experience in educating and motivating volunteers
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with external stakeholders, media, members and volunteers at all levels,
  • Proven abilities in financial, administrative, and human resource management, organizational development, public relations, data analytics and database management
  • The ability to play a leadership role in the organization and work as a member of a team in the planning and allocation of resources
  • An understanding of the organization and structure of the NSNDP and the Federal NDP, the role of Party Committees and the ability to integrate the work of the Committees into the overall structure of the Party

The position is based in Halifax and requires travel throughout the Province of Nova Scotia. The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle. The Secretary must be prepared to work long hours including weekends and evenings on a regular basis.
