Chender writes to Minister on rumored cuts to art teachers in HRM

HALIFAX – Claudia Chender, NDP spokesperson for Education and Early Childhood Development, wrote to Minister Zach Churchill today after multiple reports from parents and teachers that all classroom-based arts teaching positions are being eliminated in elementary schools in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

“Under this Liberal government, parents and teachers have repeatedly been the first to sound the alarm on cuts in the classroom. I have written to the Minister this afternoon to verify whether or not arts teaching positions are being eliminated,” said Chender. “Visual arts, drama, music, and other arts instruction cannot be treated as expendable in our school system.”
