20 fewer family doctors since Liberals took office

NS doctors lowest paid in country

HALIFAX –A new study released today by the Canadian Institute for Health Information shows there are 20 fewer family doctors in 2016 than when the Liberals took office. The report also finds that Nova Scotian doctors are the lowest paid in the country.

“It's no surprise that we've lost doctors given the crisis we have in our health care system," said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. "The Premier's refusal to admit we have a crisis will continue to hurt health care services in our province."

The Physician Recruitment plan outlines the need for 107 new doctors per year. The current Liberal budget can only establishes the resources for 8 new physicians.

“During the election all people talked about was health care. The Premier said he was listening, but clearly he wasn’t,” said Tammy Martin, NDP Health and Wellness spokesperson. “We need more resources for primary health care, not more excuses from this Liberal government.”
